Our top picks for Business Week 2016

There’s just over a week to go until Humber Business Week 2016 (6 – 10 June) and this year there are more than 50 events taking place to educate, inspire and showcase the best our region has to offer.

Fitting everything in around an already busy diary is never easy, so from the packed programme we’ve chosen our top pick for each day.

Monday 6 June

Celebrity service: an audience with Geoff Ramm

OK, we confess – this is a KCOM event. So while there are plenty of other sessions well worth your time on the first day of BizWeek – including the always-entertaining Bondholder breakfast and the 2017-focused ‘Can the Hull brand make or break your business?’ – we hope you’ll forgive us for promoting it.

Award-winning speaker Geoff Ramm wowed attendees at his OMG Marketing session in BizWeek 2014, so we’re delighted to welcome him back to share the secrets of serving customers in a way that will make them love you.

Launch of the Humber Resilience Forum: Building a network to tackle a network
4-6pm

OK, it may not have a snappy title, but the advice you’ll get at this BizWeek event could save your business money, time and reputational damage. The newly-formed Humber Business Resilience Forum (HBRF) is a network to help organisations of all types and sizes protect against cyber threats and other security issues. At its launch you’ll hear from experts on how to prepare for, respond to and emerge from cyber attacks or internal security breached that could be a serious threat to your business.

Thursday 9 June

EU Referendum – what will it mean for business?
3-5pm
Allam Lecture Theatre, Hull University Business School

Will we be better off in or out? What are the important issues for region when it comes to continued EU membership vs Brexit? This Question Time-style debate, with a top-quality panel and plenty of audience interaction, will separate the facts from the spin and give you food for thought before you put your tick in a box on 23 June.

Friday 10 June

The simple art of making a cup of tea – premier league project management
2-3.30pm
Hull University Business School

We’re intrigued by the title of this session but we’re sure any event that involves learning how to make a better cup of tea will be a winner.  Martin Standley of Sewell Construction will share with aspiring or current managers, team leaders and business leaders how his learnings from project management and leadership can be applied to simple, everyday tasks.
