KCOM: Investing in our region
In April we brought together all the brands that made up KCOM Group under a single, new-look brand.
We wanted to make it easier for all our customers across the UK to gain access to all our expertise and the full range of our services.
We said at the time that our new brand would be more than just a change of name, and that not only would our heart and headquarters remain in Hull, but that a stronger KCOM would lead to more investment in the region.
Since then, we’ve put our money where our mouth is and announced not one, but two, major areas of investment.
Faster broadband, faster
We’re increasing the pace of our roll-out of Lightstream over the next 18 months so that by December 2017 around 150,000 homes and businesses in the region will have access to the UK’s fastest broadband.
It means Lightstream will be available to three-quarters of the properties on our network and will take the total capital investment in our fibre deployment at that point to approximately £60 million.
During the next phase of our deployment we’ll be focusing on taking the service to areas of our network where speeds are slower than average because of the length of copper cable from customers’ homes and businesses to the telephone exchange.
Supporting Hull’s year in the cultural limelight
Also hot on the heels of our rebrand, we were delighted to announce our formal support of Hull UK City of Culture 2017 as Principal Communications Partner.
As a long-standing supporter of cultural events and organisations including Freedom Festival and Ferens Art Gallery, we believe in the transformational impact of the arts and want to play our part in making 2017 an outstanding success that delivers economic, cultural and social benefits long into the future.
In the run-up to and during 2017 we’ll be working closely with the City of Culture team to promote Hull as a place where digital connectivity supports artistic expression and the cultural economy.
