Five must-see events at Humber Business Week 2018

Humber Business Week is almost upon us, bringing with it a whole host of fascinating speakers and informative events.

The week culminates in the star-studded Business Day at Bridlington Spa on Friday, June 8, featuring speakers such as Live Aid legend Sir Bob Geldof, cricketing hero Geoff Boycott and BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty.

But before that Humber Business Week (4 June to 8 June) is promising a wide array of seminars, speakers and networking events that should prove invaluable to Hull and East Yorkshire’s local business community and entrepreneurs.

Here are just five of the many events taking place during the week that you may find useful.


IOD Humber lunch with Sally Gunnell OBE DL

Midday-3pm, Monday, 4 June, at the Kingston Suite, KCOM Stadium, Hull, HU3 6HU

Sally Gunnell, “Britain's First Lady of Sport” will be the key speaker at this year’s annual Humber Luncheon which kick-starts Humber Business Week 2018.

She one of the most popular and successful female sportswomen of our times and the only woman ever to hold four titles concurrently - Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth.

Since retiring from athletics in 1997 Sally mixes motivational speaking with running corporate well-being programs which weave the secrets of sporting achievement with the valuable components that underpin success in business.

Her key themes hold resonance for senior decision-makers and junior staff alike.

Who murdered time? The mystery of meetings

8am to 10.30am, on Tuesday, 5 June, at the 1904 Lounge, KCOM Stadium

8am to 10am, on Wednesday, 6 June, at Rollits LLP, Citadel House, 58 High Street, Hull, HU1 1QE

As the local economy continues to grow and businesses capitalise on Hull’s success as the UK City of Culture, this event will take a look at the positive steps employers can take to find the right employees, engage with them and retain their skills in a competitive marketplace.

Hull Monopoly Challenge 2018 – Hosted by Streets Chartered Accountants

1pm till 5pm, on Thursday, 7 June, at KCOM Craven Park

Participants, especially those in the property sector, are invited to pit their wits in the 1st Humber Business Week Charitable Hull Monopoly Challenge.

Individuals or groups of up to six players will be able to compete for the coveted title of Hull Monopoly Champion 2018. Contestants will be playing using the Hull version of the iconic property dealing board game.

The proceeds from the event will be shared equally between Hull Kingston Rovers Community Trust, Hull FC Foundation and The Tigers Trust.

The Business Day

7.30am to 5pm, on Friday, 8 June, at Bridlington Spa

The week will end in style with a gathering for all the business movers and shakers of Hull and East Yorkshire.

The KCOM-sponsored Business Day, which returns to Bridlington Spa for the second year running, is a chance to renew old acquaintances, network with new ones, hear from a stellar panel of speakers and enjoy a day out at the seaside all at the same time.
